People who love pizza with their football will get a chance to launch the new National League Football (NFL) season with free pizza in New York City this weekend.
The promotion is being offered by Yum Brands (YUM) Pizza Hut in partnership with News Corp.‘s (NWSA) Fox NFL Sunday. As many as 5,500 free pizza slices will be dispensed from Pizza Hut’s 53-foot Mobile Kitchen in the Big Apple’s Time Square, Restaurant News notes.
Twitter users who include the hash tag “#WorldsGreatestPizzaParty” will also be eligible for free pizza from Pizza Hut.
While Pizza Hut is a sponsor for Fox’s NFL pre-game show and has a marketing alliance with the NFL Network, the NFL’s official pizza sponsor is Papa John’s Pizza (PZZA). The Times Square event is designed to counter NFL player-stuffed commercials from Papa John’s, which is also giving away free pizza to mark the season’s kickoff.
Pizza Hut is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year.
Shares of Yum Brands rose modestly in Friday morning trading.
