Walmart’s Empty Shelves Mean More Hours for 70K Workers

Walmart (WMT) is gearing up for the holiday season by hiring 55,000 seasonal workers and thousands of part-time and full-time workers.

The retailer is looking to reverse workforce reductions to ensure that the company’s shelves are stocked for the holidays. In addition to adding seasonal workers, Walmart is also promoting 35,000 seasonal workers to part-time positions and moving 35,000 part-time workers to full-time positions. The retailer said that these 70,000 employees will retain their new positions after the holidays.

The main reason why Walmart is hiring these workers is to improve customer service within the store by ensuring that shelves are properly stocked at the right time during the holiday season. The company hopes that spending more on labor will improve its sales.

Earlier this month, Walmart employees staged a protest against the retailer over low wages and illegally fired employees.
