Kmart (SHLD) is already getting into the holiday spirit by releasing a Christmas ad Monday where a gingerbread man sneaks up on a woman.
Adage reports that the ad has a woman working in a cubicle before a gingerbread man creeps up on her and a voiceover says: “Don’t let the holidays sneak up on you.” Kmart immediately received complaints on its Facebook page because of the fact that the ad came out 105 days before Christmas.
According to analytics service Ace Metrix, the company’s first holiday ad was released on Oct. 28 last year. A spokesperson for Kmart said that the retailer will not start talking about its holiday plan yet and it released the ad to start up the holiday season a few weeks earlier.
About $580 billion is spent on the winter holiday season each year according to NRF. Additionally, 6% of consumers begin shopping in September whereas 20% begin in October.
