Michael Spann has been crying tears of blood since he was 22 years old.
Spann, who is now 29 years old, would cry tears of blood daily when it first started, but now it only happens once or twice a week. The crying is accompanied with severe headaches. The first time Spann cried tears he described it as feeling like he “got hit in the head with a sledgehammer” and that he had “never felt anything like it.” Spann lives with his parents because the tears of blood has made it impossible for him to keep work. A friend of Spann’s once got him a job refurbishing old houses, but clients would see him bleeding from the eyes and wouldn’t let him work on their homes. Spann has also bled from his mouth, ears and nose when he is crying blood. His condition hasn’t been explained and there is currently no cure or relief for it, reports ABC News.
Spann’s condition has made him reclusive.
“I have kids that ride by on bikes in this neighborhood who point and say, ‘That’s the guy who bleeds,'” Spann told USA Today. “I really don’t want more than that.”
