Adobe Adobe Hack Attack Exposed Customer Credit Card InfoAdobe Systems is advising some of its customers to reset their passwords after its online defenses were breached.

On Thursday, the software giant announced that a hacker penetrated its systems, collecting customer names and encrypted credit card data, including expiration dates and account numbers. Customer account IDs and passwords were also compromised, the Associated Press notes.

The attack comes as the company is looking into the apparent appropriation of the source code for several of its software products.

In all, about 2.9 million customers were affected by the online attack. Non-encrypted debit and credit card data was not obtained by the hackers, according to the company.

The company is working with law enforcement authorities and financial institutions to identify the source of the intrusion and prevent unauthorized access of customers’ credit accounts.

Over the summer, a hacker group called the Syrian Electronic Army breached the The Washington Post‘s website, redirecting visitors to another website for about 30 minutes.

Shares of Adobe climbed modestly in Friday morning trading.
