AOL in lights 630 300x199 AOL Announces Plan to Only Fully Staff Patch in Top 14 Markets[1]AOL is cutting back its Patch operations significantly and will maintain complete staffs for only a limited number of Patch websites[2].

The sites that will keep full staffs cover 14 markets that generate the “highest traffic and revenue,” according to a memo sent to Patch employees obtained by Poynter.org.

Patch websites focusing on areas peripheral to the 14 major markets will only feature light staffs. Websites beyond the critical markets won’t have any staff at all, but will continue to see content posted from Patch’s “central publishing team.”

The 14 markets that will continue to have full Patch staffs are:

  1. Atlanta
  2. Baltimore
  3. Boston
  4. Chicago
  5. Detroit
  6. Hartford
  7. Los Angeles
  8. Minneapolis
  9. New York
  10. Philadelphia
  11. Providence
  12. San Diego
  13. San Francisco
  14. Washington D.C.

AOL recently announced plans to close or sell about a third of Patch websites[3].

Shares of AOL climbed about 2% in Friday morning trading.
