[1]Smartphone buyers who didn’t rush to the Apple (AAPL[2]) Store when the company launched its colorful new iPhone 5c last month can pick up the new phone at one retailer for a hefty discount this weekend[3].
Best Buy (BBY[4]) will give consumers who purchase the iPhone 5c with a two-year wireless contract a $50 gift card, good for other purchases at the retailer. The offer extends from Friday through Sunday, TheVerge notes.
The deal effective cuts the price of an on-contract iPhone 5c by half. With a contract, the phone sells for $99.
Featuring the mostly the same internal components as the iPhone 5, which it replaces, the iPhone 5c differs from the standard iPhone line by offering buyers a wider range of color choices. iPhones have traditionally come in white or black. Apple has changed those offerings for both the iPhone 5s, which adds a gold color, and the iPhone 5c, whose plastic casing comes in white, pink, green, yellow and blue[5].
The iPhone 5c was introduced alongside Apple’s flagship iPhone 5s last month. Apple says it sold a record-setting 9 million iPhones during their launch weekend. Analysts say early sales of the more expensive iPhone 5s have outstripped sales of the iPhone 5c[6].
Shares of Best Buy slipped almost 1% in Monday morning trading, while Apple slipped slightly.
