Readers of Wednesday’s New York Times doubtless puzzled over two blank pages in the main section of the print edition.
But those pages weren’t the result of a printing error. They were in fact an advertisement placed in the iconic newspaper to promote 21st Century Fox’s (FOXA) upcoming big screen film The Book Thief, AdAge notes.
At the bottom of the second blank page is a URL that links to the film’s promotional website. The movie opens early next month in Los Angeles and New York.
The unusual ad appeared only in the Times, which observers consider an odd platform for movie promotions. However, Fox will launch a broader media campaign to promote the film starting next week.
Last month the newspaper’s publisher, the New York Times Company (NYT) announced that it would issue a dividend of 4 cents per share on October 24, its first dividend since 2008.
