Central Valley, California is on alert after being warned that dangerous mosquitos are roaming around the area.
LAist reports that these mosquitos are capable of carrying dengue and yellow fever — potentially deadly diseases. These bugs are part of the Aedes aegypti species and they have a dark color with white polka-dot markings and white-banded legs.
Unlike most mosquitos, these prefer to strike during the day instead of the night and they prefer to feast on humans over other animals. Additionally, they only need a teaspoon of water to reproduce. The manager of Madera Mosquito and Vector Control District said that this situation requires help from everyone by washing out dog bowls and turning over plant saucers.
Dengue and yellow fever are both serious illnesses that can cause a series of symptoms from fevers to skin rashes and even jaundice.
