Man Sues Anheuser-Busch Over Deceptive Beck’s Beer Labels

A Florida man is suing Anheuser-Busch (BUD) over alleged deceiving marketing practices to lead its consumers into believing that the company’s Beck’s beer is brewed in Germany.

St Louis Business Journal reports that Francisco Rene Marty of Miami-Dade County is suing the brewery for its allegedly misleading messages on the labels of its Beck’s bottles. The suit says that the Anheuser-Busch product uses labels such as ‘Originated in Germany’ and ‘German Quality’ in order to sell the beer to consumers at a higher price despite the fact that Beck’s is brewed in the U.S.

Each product is brewed under different conditions and with different water so the suit is saying that it is deceiving customers who believe that Beck’s is possibly being brewed using water from Germany. Beck’s bottles say ‘Product of USA’ and a spokesperson for Anheuser-Busch said that the company is proud to employ “American brewmasters to brew it according to the exacting German standards where it was created.”

The class-action lawsuit is seeking more than $5 million in damages.
