Jeff Stratton, the burger chain operator’s president, was addressing an audience at the Union League Club of Chicago when seven protestors disrupted his remarks. One of the demonstrators was 26-year-old Nancy Salgado, a cashier at a McDonald’s restaurant. Her exchange with the executive was widely reported by news outlets, TheRealNews.com notes.

“Do you think this is fair, that I have to be making $8.25 when I’ve worked for McDonald’s for ten years?” Salgado asked Stratton.

Stratton shot back: “I’ve been there forty years.”

Salgado is a single mother raising two children. She says she has been working at McDonald’s since she was 16 and that her salary is so small that she often has problems keeping a gallon of milk in her refrigerator.

The protestors are part of a labor-union back campaign to force fast food chains to raise wages for restaurant workers[4] to $15 an hour.

Police escorted the protestors out of the event. They were issued tickets for trespassing.

Shares of McDonald’s rose slightly in Friday morning trading.
