Oops! New Kate Spade Bag Has Unfortunate Design

Kate Spade bag appears to support Ugandan warlord

A new handbag from Kate Spade is accidentally showing support for Joseph Kony.

The handbag has letters and symbols on the front that are meant to spell out “I heart Kate Spade New York.” The bag uses symbols instead of words for “heart” and “spade.” This makes it so the bag looks like it could spell out “I heart KONY.” Kony is a Ugandan terrorist and warlord that abducts children and turns them into child soldiers. The handbag’s unfortunate design started to be noticed after pictures of it was posted to Twitter. Kate Spade has apologized for the design and is currently working to recall all of them from stores. The bag was originally meant to celebrate Kate Spade New York, reports The Daily Mail.

Kate Spade isn’t the only company that has come under fire for a controversial product recently. Urban Outfitters (URBN) pulled a line of drinking containers that were designed to look like prescription drug containers in June. Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) pulled a shirt that poked fun of Taylor Swift that same month after the singer’s fans complained about it.
