Despite years of adamant public denials, disgraced cycling star Lance Armstrong was reportedly very open about his doping with at least one person.
According to Wheelmen, a new book by two Wall Street Journal reporters, Armstrong underwent doping procedures while his then-fiance singer Sheryl Crow looked on. In fact, Armstrong made no effort to hide his illicit activities from the singer, apparently never thinking she would reveal what he was doing, the Daily News notes.
That guess proved quite wrong and Crow later reported what she had seen to investigators.
Armstrong apparently told Crow that all cyclists doped. The couple’s engagement ended in 2006.
Five years later, Crow was interviewed by investigators probing allegations of Armstrong’s doping and agreed to cooperate after she was granted protection from prosecution.
Last year, Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and was banished from cycling after investigators charged that he had been doping throughout his career.
The cyclist eventually made a public admission of his doping in a televised interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Armstrong is facing a variety of lawsuits from former sponsors.
