School Bans Balls During Recess Due to Safety Concerns

A New York school is taking safety precautions to a whole new level by banning the use of most balls during recess.

CNN reports that the Weber Middle School[1] in Port Washington is no longer allowing the use of hard balls such as baseballs, lacrosse balls, footballs and any other balls that could pose a threat to children. The school said that it will provide the kids with soft nerf balls during recess and hard balls during gym and intramural sports but that’s about it. In addition to this restriction, rough games such as tag and cartwheels are not allowed unless the games are played under adult supervision.

Many parents have taken exception over this measure which they consider to be extreme. One parents said that wearing helmets to ride a bicycle is one thing but not allowing children to play outside on their own is ridiculous.
