The ape-like creature found in the Himalayas known as the ‘Abominable Snowman’ may be something different than people expected.
The Seattle Times reports that a British scientist examined the creature’s DNA and he thinks it’s a bear. Oxford University genetics professor Bryan Sykes believes that the animal is a descendant of an ancient polar bear and it could be an animal that we have yet to see. He compared the DNA from hair samples of two Himalayan animals and they had similar genes to a polar bear jawbone that’s at least 40,000 years old.
Sykes added that the new creature may not be a direct descendant of the ancient polar bear but the DNA suggests that it could be a hybrid between a polar bear and a brown bear.
