We are less than a year away from being able to fly directly from Dallas Love Field to other major airports through Southwest Airlines (LUV).
CBS reports that travelers will no longer have to deal with the restrictions placed by the Wright Amendment and will now be able to enjoy non-stop flights to other cities. Ron Ricks — executive vice-president at Southwest — said that the company already offers good deals out of Love and customers will be able to enjoy them even more with non-stop flights. Ricks didn’t say what cities customers will be able to fly directly to but Southwest predicts that New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Orlando are all within the realm of possibility.
The Wright Amendment was created almost 35 years ago in order to improve a then-struggling Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport by placing restrictions on flights leaving from Love. However, a deal took place in 2006 that would end the Wright Amendment on October 13, 2014 which is now less than a year away.
