Target (TGT) is set to launch its pre-paid wireless plans, called “Brightspot“, on October 6.
According to an article by Target, the new service will be powered by T-Mobile (TMUS). Users will be able to get unlimited talk and text as well as 1G of data for $50 a month. Those who don’t want data can grab a talk and text plan for $35 a month. The plans don’t require an annual contract, but do offer bonuses for those who stick with them. Target customers that have a REDcard will get 5% off for the plans. Target will also offer customers who stay with Brightspot for six months a $25 Target gift card. A new gift card can be earned for every six months a person stays with the service. Target will also offer SIM Kits, which will allow most customers to use their current unlocked phones with the service.
Brightspot is likely Target’s answer to Walmart’s (WMT) Straight Talk service, which runs off of AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ) towers, depending on the phone being used.
