Target (TGT) is remodeling its electronics department so customers can get a more hands-on experience on the store’s products.
StarTribune reports that the retailer is following the initiative of stores like Apple (AAPL) and Best Buy (BBY) by adding bright white tables and items for display that customers can test. Spokeswoman Erica Julkowski said that Target is testing a more convenient way for customers to interact with the store’s electronic products before purchasing them.
This trend of displaying items for customers to test — also known as ‘showrooming’ — helps consumers get a feel for the product before buying them. Nevertheless some people are not so crazy about showrooming since they find it harder to compare the prices of products in person.
There is still a large online market for electronics that showrooming has yet to overtake, but Target hopes that this initiative will boost the retailer’s in-store sales.
