Subway has started to carry its falafel sandwich, which is perfect for vegetarians, in areas around Washington D.C.
The falafel sandwich has appeared and disappeared from Subway’s menu from time to time. The sandwich is made up of fried chickpea patties that are covered with cucumber sauce. The cucumber sauce is a dairy product, so vegans will have to change a few things to make the sandwich fit their diet. The falfael sandwich cost $4.75 for a six-inch and up to $7.50 for a 12-inch, reports FoodBeast.
According to The Washington Post’s Lavanya Ramanathan, Subway initially tested the falafel sandwich in Canada and Chicago. Ramanathan’s personal experience with the falafel sub is that it isn’t very good. She claims that “after a quick zap in the oven” her chickpea patties were incredibly dry. Ramanathan also tried to make the sandwich into a vegan meal, only to find out that the flatbread used in Subway’s advertisements for the sandwich isn’t vegan.
