5 Highlights From the First-Ever YouTube Music Awards

The first YouTube (GOOG) Music Awards took place on Monday and it was a spectacle full of surprises.

Latin Post reports that the awards ceremony took place in New York City and winners were chosen based on views, comments, likes and subscriptions made since Sept. 2012. Here are 5 highlights from the ceremony.

  • Actor Jason Schwartzman and comedian Reggie Watts hosted the show.
  • The show was full of great performances from Eminem, Lady Gaga, Avicii, Lindsey Stirling and others from different locations including London, Moscow, New York City and Tokyo.
  • Girls’ Generation ‘I Got A Boy’ won the Video of the Year award, beating out music videos by Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and even PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style.’
  • Eminem made a comeback by winning Artist of the Year over youngsters Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and others.
  • Violinist and dancer Lindsey Stirling won the Response of the Year award thanks to her collaboration with Pentatonix in the track ‘Radioactive.’
