There is a new app that can help pet owners find their lost pets by showing other app users a picture of their dog, cat or other animal.
ABC News reports that the PiP (Positive Identification of Pet) app uses facial recognition software to track pets. Pet owners can upload pictures of their animals along with other details and send it to nearby PiP users. Local shelters and veterinary offices will also receive these notifications and help owners find their pets. Additionally, photos of found pets will be cross-referenced with the picture of the missing animal to see if the right pet was found.
PiP CEO Philip Rooyakkers came up with the app idea after he saw a dog at a shelter being adopted only 48 hours after being taken into the shelter. He noticed that the dog was sad and missing his owners so he wanted to create an app that would make it easier for pet owners to reunite with their furry ones.
