The author of the popular Junie B. Jones book series died on Sunday after entertaining middle-schoolers everywhere with her young, rebellious character.
Barbara Park died at age 66 after facing a long battle with ovarian cancer that eventually took her, according to People. The Junie B. Jones creator wrote over 30 illustrated books about the cheeky kindergarten girl who always has something to say and often gets into trouble.
Park’s character mirrored her own experience as a kid when she visited to the principal’s office on a regular basis. The Junie B. Jones books were a massive success, selling over 55 million copies in North America alone, according to Random House.
Park had been living in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband and two sons at the time.
