Facebook (FB) has redesigned its “Share” and “Like” buttons, which appear on innumerable websites, offering users an opportunity to communicate their online discoveries with friends. Officials from Facebook said the redesigned icons have already received “a favorable increase” in use by web surfers. The company will continue to expand use of the new icons over the coming weeks.

According to Shareaholic, in September social media traffic generated by Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter (TWTR) comprised about 15% of all online traffic.

At least 7.5 million websites current feature the “Like” and “Share” icons.

Shares of Facebook fell almost 2% in Thursday morning trading.
