Xbox One Makes Users Repeat Verbal Commands Again … and Again

Xbox One 185[1]Microsoft’s (MSFT[2]) Xbox One has users repeating verbal commands multiple times[3] before it works.

Microsoft held an event to showcase the Xbox One this week. At the event, which lasted for about 45 minutes, the company made an effort to show off the ability to give the console verbal commands. The Xbox One, which releases Nov. 22, didn’t always register commands the first time they were spoken. Out of 45 commands given to the machine, about 10 of them had to be repeated before working. Some of these commands had to be said as many as four times.

According to a Jose Pinero, who is the senior director of marketing and public relations for Xbox, the technology will be getting better. He cited that the company still has a couple of weeks before the console launches to improve how well it handles voice commands. Pinero also said that the voice command feature learns and becomes more accurate the more it is used.

The voice command technology is handled by the new Kinect. Unlike the Xbox 360, every version of the Xbox One will include a Kinect. The new Kinect has a better camera on it that can register more people and has a 60% wider range, reports the Associated Press.

The Xbox One will use face and voice recognition[4] to determine who is playing the console. This feature is meant to give players the ability to use general commands without having to specify who they are.
