Intel to Open Pop-Up ‘Experience’ Stores for the Holidays

[1]In a bid to boost the visibility of its brand, Intel (INTC[2]) will launch temporary stores at retail locations across the U.S. during the holiday shopping season[3].

The chip-maker hasn’t disclosed what devices will be featured at the Intel Experience shops, but they will presumably highlight products that are powered by Intel technology. That could include ultra-slim laptops and devices that feature facial recognition technology as well as gesture and voice command capability. The first shop will open in New York City on Nov. 23, PC World notes.

Intel’s brand has lost some of the luster it achieved during the heyday of the personal computer, when its label was slapped on computers and included in TV advertisements. But with PC sales eroding under competition from smartphones and tablets, Intel’s once-prominent name may also be fading with consumers.

All Intel Experience Shops will reportedly close down on Jan. 25.

Shoppers who want to purchase items on display will be able to place online orders at the stores. The shops will also offer free coffee, lectures and even free movies on Fridays.

Shares of Intel rose modestly in Monday morning trading.
