Lay’s (PEP) is releasing chocolate-covered potato chips as the company tries to break into the world of sweet and salty snacks.
USA Today reports that Lay’s Wavy Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate is the company’s new invention and 5-ounce bags will be sold for $3.49. Target (TGT) stores will be the only ones carrying the product during its testing period that will last through the holidays, but the item could become a permanent fixture if it’s successful.
A consumer products research firm spokesperson said that flavors are getting more sophisticated and complex. Additionally, people are becoming interested in opposite flavors like sweet and salty combinations.
Lay’s hopes that its new chips will help it become an even bigger player in the snacks industry which makes up a $31 billion market.
