A high-tech storage system that can make apples stay fresh for up to a year could be available to grocers all around the country soon.
USA Today reports that this year’s rich crop of apples has prompted Michigan growers to store the fruits in storerooms. The mass production of apple could be very profitable to growers and packers thanks to the scientific storage process that can preserve the fruits for a year. These rooms are sealed and every element is monitored from temperature to oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen.
Incredibly, apples retain most of their taste after being in these rooms and they could be available at a lower price in the near future.
