A Washington State woman caused a near panic at a local elementary school after she donned a too-realistic Halloween costume on Thursday.
Police in Wenatchee, Wash., were dispatched to the school after receiving a report of a person near the school carrying an assault rifle. The school immediately went into lockdown, the Associated Press noted.
A subsequent call to authorities informed them that the person seen was likely a woman in her 20s who had included a toy assault rifle in her Halloween getup.
Local cops located and spoke with the woman, confirming that she was not an actual threat. Police told her that openly carrying a realistic-looking toy firearm wasn’t “the wisest of ideas.”
The school lockdown lasted for about half an hour while police investigated the report.
In December, a disturbed man entered an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., and murdered 26 people, including 20 small children.
