An Ohio couple has returned their nine-year-old son that they adopted as an infant to child welfare officials.
The couple, who have two other children, is from the Cincinnati. It’s unknown why the couple returned the child, but they have been charged with nonsupport of dependents. Local police officers believe that the couple has left their home with their other two children. One Ohio prosecutor claims that he will pursue criminal abandonment charges against couples that return their adopted children without just cause. The prosecutor hopes that this will serve as a warning to other families that are considering returning their adopted children without good reason, reports the Associated Press.
“Children are like a box of chocolates – when they are born into your life, you never really know what you’re going to get,” Michael Gmoser, a Butler County Ohio prosecutor, told WJLA. “You have the responsibility to care for them up until adulthood.”
