Star Wars Logo Open Casting Calls Across U.S. for Star Wars Episode VII[1]Open casting calls for Star Wars: Episode VII start this week[2] in the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland.

The open casting calls haven’t been confirmed as being for the next Star Wars film, but it’s likely that they are. The roles were announced via Twitter as a “nationwide search for lead roles for a Disney movie.” Disney (DIS[3]) purchased Lucasfilm, which is the company behind the Star Wars films, in 2012. There are two roles that need to be filled: the first is a street smart orphaned girl in her late teens and the other is for a smart and capable man in his late teens to early 20s. Actors applying for the role of the girl will need to be at least 16 years old and actors applying for the role of man will need to be at least 18 years old, reports BBC News.

The roles that need filled are for characters named Rachel and Thomas. While these don’t come across as the type of names that Star Wars characters would have, industry watchers believe that the names have been changed to keep people from figuring out that the roles are for a Star Wars film, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution[4].
