Study: Birth Control Use Linked to Glaucoma Risk

Birth Control 300x168 Study: Birth Control Use Linked to Glaucoma Risk[1]A new study shows that there may be a link between taking birth control pills and developing glaucoma later in life.

International Business Times reports that the research[2] was conducted by surveying 3,406 women over the age of 40 and those who used pills for three or more years had a 205% higher chance of being diagnosed with the illness. Researcher Elaine Wang believes that birth control could lead to the eye disease because of how the pills affect hormones. This assumption would only be true if a link is found between hormone levels and glaucoma.

The study was presented at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Ophtalmology held in New Orleans on Monday.
