Yet Another Battery Bummer for Boeing

787dreamliner[1]It’s probably the last news Boeing (BA[2]) wanted to hear … one of its 787 Dreamliners reported a battery problem while in flight[3].

On Friday, cockpit instruments indicated an issue with a battery in the auxiliary power system of 787 operated by Japan Airlines. The plane was traveling between Tokyo and Helsinki, Finland, when the indicator came on, Reuters noted.

Despite the warning light, no smoke or fire was reported. Nor was the battery reported to have overheated. The flight continued as normal.

The airline noted that the battery had been replaced that was undergoing examination.

Earlier this year, aviation authorities grounded the entire worldwide fleet of 787 Dreamliners after a series of incidents, including a fire at Boston’s Logan Airport, were linked to the lithium-ion batteries used in the new jet[4].

Shares of Boeing sank slightly in Monday morning trading.
