Sacco’s Tweet read as such: “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!”

Sacco’s AIDS Tweet went viral after she posted it and she soon had thousands of followers that were leaving harsh comments over her Tweet. Sacco was unable to respond to angry comments because she was on a 12-hour flight to South Africa. Sacco’s Twitter account was deleted on Saturday and IAC released a public statement announcing that it had fired the former PR Executive, reports CNN.

Sacco has responded to the negative attention with an apology.

“Words cannot express how sorry I am, and how necessary it is for me to apologize to the people of South Africa, who I have offended due to a needless and careless tweet,” Sacco told The Star.
