The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released its list of the safest cars for 2014.
The list includes several different categories for vehicles, including small cars, SUVs and minivans.
Here are the requirements for cars to make it on IIHS’ safest cars list.
TOP SAFETY PICK requires good performance in the Institute’s moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests and, for the first time, good or acceptable performance in the small overlap front test introduced in 2012. The same level of performance in those tests, along with at least a basic rating for front crash prevention, is required for the higher accolade, TOP SAFETY PICK+.

That’s right. Honda had the only minivan that made it onto IIHS’ list of the safest vehicles for 2014. This means that Honda has the best minivan for 2014 when it comes to safety rankings. While this may be a downer for minivan lovers, there are plenty of small cars and SUVs that made it on the list
