Users of social media giant Facebook (FB) now have a convenient way to make charitable donations.
On Sunday, Facebook rolled out its new “donate now” button. The donate now button will appear first on the Facebook pages of 19 non-profit organizations as well as their news feeds. Users can also share donation drives with friends through the donate now button, TechCrunch notes.
After clicking on the donate now button, users can select the size of their contribution using payment methods already known to Facebook, or entering new payment methods. Facebook says it will not charge a processing fee for credit card donations made to charities through the donate now button.
Among the first groups to partner with Facebook on the donate now button are UNICEF, Boys and Girls Club of America, Red Cross and the World Wildlife Fund.
While the donate now button makes it easier for FB users to be generous to charities, it also gives the social media platform another vehicle to collect credit card data on users.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Facebook has developed a “sympathize” button that would make it easier for users to respond to negative events, though it has no plans to roll it out any time soon.
Shares of FB stock climbed more than 1% in Tuesday morning trading.
