The Mega Millions jackpot continues to grow and lottery officials believe it could reach the $1 billion mark by Christmas Eve.
The lottery jackpot is up to $636 million which is second only to the $656 Mega Millions jackpot won in March 2012. The lottery system changed its rules so the total prize would be higher but the odds would be lower — there is about a 1 in 259 million chance of winning the grand prize. As Christmas Eve approaches, many are scrambling to get themselves a ticket of what could be the biggest jackpot ever.
Tonight’s drawing is scheduled for 11 p.m. EST with the cash option estimated at a whopping $341 million before taxes. The Mega Millions jackpot winner will come from one of 43 states or the District of Columbia where lottery tickets are sold.
