When the USB Type-C ultimately reaches consumers late next year, it will work no matter how it is oriented, meaning that users won’t have to fumble around to get everything facing the right way.

The new connecter its designed to “meet evolving design trends in terms of size and usability,” according to the chairman of the USB 3.0 Promoter Group, which is helping to develop the technology.

While the Type-C may be easier to connect, it won’t fit in standard USB ports, meaning that consumers will have to continue to put up with current USB cables until the next generation becomes standard and older models gradually disappear.
