The newest face of comic book super heroine Wonder Woman belongs to a 28-year-old Israeli actress.
On Wednesday, director Zak Snyder revealed that Gal Gadot will appear as the golden-lasso wielding crime fighter in the sequel to this year’s Superman reboot, Man of Steel. Gadot most recently appeared in the sixth installment of the Fast & Furious film franchise, CNN notes.
In the next Man of Steel movie, Gadot’s Wonder Woman will appear alongside Superman and Batman, played by Henry Cavil and Ben Affleck. Her inclusion in the movie comes as a surprise and could generate even more fan controversy for the film, which is currently titled Batman vs. Superman.
Super hero fans were sharply critical of the casting of Affleck as Batman earlier this year.
Comic book fans have long complained that Wonder Woman — most memorably played in the 1970’s TV series by Linda Carter — hasn’t received enough attention. Earlier this year, the CEo of Time Warner‘s (TWX) Warner Bros. said the studio needed to do more with the character.
