Shop.org’s annual survey of online retailers found that 84.2% of Internet stores end guaranteed Christmas delivery before Dec. 20. The survey was conducted for Shop.org by Prosper Insights & Analytics, which communicated with 47 Internet-retailers in June and 44 online retailers in September to compile the results, the National Retail Federation notes.

Free shipping for Christmas gifts will also expire on or prior to Dec. 20 at 74.2% of online retailers.

Consumers who dawdle can still get last-minute expedited shipping either as an order upgrade or for free from 33.3% of online retailers until Dec. 21. That falls to just 16.7% of online retailers who will offer expedited shipping on orders placed through Dec. 23.

Free shipping is a popular promotion among online retailers because it attracts many last-minute Christmas gift shoppers, especially those who make purchases via mobile devices.

Time is also running out for people sending Christmas gifts through the United States Postal Service (USPS). Items sent by First Class Mail must be sent by Dec. 20 in order to arrive by Christmas, while the Priority Mail deadline is Dec. 21 and Priority Mail Express packages must be sent by Dec. 23.
