Yahoo (YHOO) now owns SkyPhrase, the natural language processing (NLP) startup that could improve fantasy sports.
TechCrunch reports that the startup has the goal of “making computers deeply understand people’s natural language and intentions,” according to the company’s site. SkyPhrase CEO Nick Cassimitis said that the startup would be used to make NLP tech available to third party partners so they can use its technology to enhance their products.
However, it seems likely that Yahoo bought SkyPhrase in order to improve its own products and data. It will operate in Yahoo’s New York office and the company — which already has a large investment in fantasy football — might use it to create more of a connection between consumer and fantasy sports.
