People love their cars. So much so that a surprising number bestow car nicknames on their vehicles.
A 2013 survey of about 2,000 car owners by DMEautomotive finds that about 50 million — roughly 20% of all car owners — use car nicknames. Women are somewhat more likely to use a car nickname compared to men. Just under half of car owners view their car as having a gender. Cars are more likely to be seen as female by both men and women.
DMEautomotive also noted that automobile owners under 35 were twice as likely as those above that age to use a car nickname.
Here are the five most popular car nicknames, according to DMEautomotive:
General Motors (GM) and Ford (F) each put five models in the top 21 best-selling vehicles in the U.S. last year, followed by Toyota (TM), Honda (HMC) and Fiat‘s (FIATY) Chrysler.
