BlackBerry (BBRY) has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Typo Products as BBRY shares are up.
The smartphone maker claims that Typo Products — founded by Ryan Seacrest — copied BlackBerry’s keyboard design with the Typo Keyboard. The Typo Products gadget is an attachable keyboard for Apple (AAPL) iPhones which makes typing on the iPhone quicker. The Typo Keyboard is also meant to reduce typos.
BlackBerry’s lawsuit claims that “Typo chose to copy BlackBerry’s iconic keyboard design as embodied in, among others, BlackBerry’s Q10 smartphone.” Although there is no way to know if Typo Products copied its design from BlackBerry, the two products have a very similar design.
BBRY stock is up 1.31% in mid-afternoon trading Friday.
