Facebook (FB) is partnering with Russian search engine Yandex (YNDX) on a feature that will allow Yandex to tap the social media giant’s public comments when generating search results.
Yandex is the leading search engine for Russian users. FB and Yandex have been collaborating on projects since 2010, TechCrunch notes.
Under the latest effort, Yandex will offer a social search feature that permits users to see current public FB posts together with other results forms search engine queries.
Microsoft’s (MSFT) Bing is the only other major search engine to include FB posts in search results.
The deal allows FB to improve its position in Russian against local social media rivals. It also allows Yandex to bolster the social media content of its search results.
To generate more accurate search results, Yandex will use FB firehose data. No financial terms are included in the deal to let Yandex gain access to FB firehose data.
Both FB stock and YNDX stock climbed around 2% in Tuesday morning trading.
