In a bid to make its new high-tech headgear more attractive to consumers, Google (GOOG) has added new frame chooses to its Google Glass.
Google Glass remains in its development program and is not commercially available yet. Early adopters who want to obtain a pair right now must join the Google Glass Explorer team, which is testing the headset. Members of the Explorer team pay $1,500 to receive the headset, which features a camera, microphone and LCD screen, TheVerge notes.
Early adopters are now able to choose among four new frame designs. Google has reduced the weight of Google Glass from 168 grams in its original design to just 46 grams in models introduced late last year. Users who opt for the fashion frames will have to pay an addition $225.
The new frame were produced by Google designers and will presumably be available on models available to consumers when Google Glass launches.
Google has also partnered with VSP VisionCare, an eye care insurance provider, to help users pay for prescription frames and lenses for Google Glass.
A variety of reports indicate that Google will launch Google Glass commercially some time before the end of 2014.
GOOG stock in slipped about 1% Wednesday morning trading. GOOG stock has gained more than 45% over the past year.
