Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) announced plans to release two ‘phablets’ in India as HPQ stock posted meager gains Wednesday.
Hewlett-Packard is releasing two of these voice-enabled tablets called Slate 6 and Slate 7. These phablets — which combine the functions of smartphones with the form factor of small tablets — will be released in India because of the growing demand there.
The company chose phablets because they are the fastest-growing smart devices in India, accounting for 23% of the overall market for phones. Hewlett-Packard’s Slate devices will run Google’s Android operating device.
The announcement might have had a minor effect on company shares as HPQ stock rose 0.3% in early trading Wednesday.
