Pepsi Drops the ‘Natural’ From Frito-Lay Chip Branding

PepsiCo (PEP) has removed the “Natural” label from its Frito-Lay chip brand.

The change occurred last year as lawsuits were filed against companies for the alleged improper use of the word. The Food and Drug Administration considers a product natural if it doesn’t contain added color, artificial flavors or synthetic substances, reports The Cherry Hill Courier Post.

PepsiCo has faced lawsuits over use of the word in its Naked juices and Gatorade lines. Others, including Campbell Soup (CPB) and Pepperidge Farm, have also faced legal challenges over the use of the word natural, The Cherry Hill Courier Post notes.

PepsiCo is also dealing with claims that the caramel coloring used in one of its drinks causes cancer.
