The discount retail chain says that it will recruit 6,500 veterans and military spouses this year. That’s 3,000 more veterans and military spouses than Sears hired in 2012. Last year, Sears fully met is goal to hire 6,000 veterans and military spouses.
Veterans and military spouses are being recruited to fill positions ranging from category managers to store managers.
More than 30,000 current Sears employees are veterans or current National Guard and National Reserve members.
In November, Sears held its first “Invite a Veteran to Work Day” to help boost the hiring of veterans. The event was held at both its Sears and Kmart stores.
Sears has struggled in recent years to lure consumers back into its stores. The company has reportedly been selling off high-performing locations to raise cash.
