Here are your Apple rumors and AAPL news items for today:
No Boost: When Apple (AAPL) introduces its next generation iPhone some time this year, it won’t try to match rival manufacturers with a higher megapixel count for the phone’s camera, The China Post notes. Rumors that Apple will stick with an 8-megapixel sensor in the iPhone 6’s camera sent shares of mobile device camera-maker Lagan Precision down sharply on Wednesday. Many analysts had expected Apple to feature either a 13-megapixel or 16-megapixel camera in the upcoming iPhone 6. Instead, Apple is rumored to be concentrating on increasing image quality through advanced optical stabilization rather than increase its camera’s resolution. Rival smartphone makers have recently added 13-megapixel and higher cameras to their devices.
Again: The heads of Apple and Samsung will hold another meeting to try and resolve patent litigation between the two tech giants, the Associated Press notes. According to a recent court filing, the two corporate chiefs will meet face-to-face sometime before Feb. 19. It will mark the second time that the heads of Apple and Samsung will meet to discuss a possible deal to end their two-year-long patent infringement battled waged in courts across the world. The prior meeting did not result in any breakthrough. Apple will be represented by CEO Tim Cook; it is unclear which of Samsung’s three top executives will represent the South Korean electronics giant in the new talks.
Additions: Staples (SPLS) shoppers can now find the latest iPads at the office supply chain’s stores, CNET notes. Last year, Staples began carrying Apple-branded accessories, but actual Apple devices were slower to appear on the chain’s shelves. Staples has been selling the iPad Air and Retina iPad Mini through its website for months, but the iPads can now be found inside at least some of its brick-and-mortar stores as well. Consumers looking to pick up an iPhone will still have to look elsewhere, since Staples doesn’t carry Apple’s smartphones. Yet.
