daily apple rumors 300x180 Tuesday Apple Rumors: iPhone 6 Could be Super Thin[1]Here are your Apple rumors[2] and AAPL news items for today:

Slimmer: A Korean news website says that insider sources in Apple’s (AAPL[3]) supply chain say the company will shave even more millimeters off the thickness of the next-generation iPhone[4], Forbes notes. The iPhone 5s, which was launched in Septembers, is 7.6 mm thick. By contrast the iPhone 3GS, which launched in 2009, was 12 mm thick. According to the new report, the iPhone 6 will be just 6 millimeters thick, half the thickness of the iPhone 3GS. Other recent rumors indicate that Apple will increase the screen size of the next iPhone. The iPhone 5s retains the 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5, but a flurry of reports from Asian news sources indicates that Apple will move to a screen of at least 4.7-inches on the iPhone 6. Another report has suggested that Apple will release two versions of the iPhone 6 this year, one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other with a 5.7-inch screen. The latter would put the iPhone into phablet territory, where Apple has previously resisted going.

Nice Haul: The App Store proved a revenue machine for Apple last year[5], CNET notes. App sales generated revenue of $10 billion for the iPhone-maker in 2013. The company disclosed the data on Tuesday, noting that app sales in December produced sales of $1 billion. Apple takes a cut of all app sales made through the app stores. Since its launch, the App Store has paid out $15 billion to app developers.

Lunar New Year: Apple will ring in a popular Asian holiday by offering a special sales event[6], AppleInsider notes. On Jan. 10, Apple will hold a one-day sales for customers in South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong. Dubbed “Red Friday” the sale is designed to promote Apple products ahead of the Lunar New Year. Both physical Apple Stores in the region, as well as its website, will be discounted, including selected accessories, iPods, Macs and iPads.
