Life proved harder in front of the cameras than behind them for Hollywood director Michael Bay when he took the stage at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
The man who helmed the Transformers movie franchise appeared at a press conference held by South Korean electronics giant Samsung. Michael Bay was supposed to tout a new Samsung ultra-high definition TV whose screen measures 105-inches diagonally. Unfortunately, he tripped over lines on his teleprompter and lost his place. Apparently unable to speak off the cuff, Michael Bay abruptly stalked off, CNET notes.
After the incident, Michael Bay conceded that things had not gone will with a post on his blog. “Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES,” he wrote. “I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP’s intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down – then I walked off,” he explained.
Michael Bay went out of his way to give a nod to the Samsung TV he was supposed to highlight. “I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar,” he wrote. He added that he was using the 105-inch curved Samsung screen to show off video from his upcoming Transformers 4 movie in appearances worldwide.
Naturally, Michael Bay’s teleprompter problem quickly went viral on social media, giving Samsung much more publicity than it expected, and probably not the kind Samsung was looking for.
“I guess live shows aren’t my thing,” Michael Bay concluded in his blog post.
